Do you wake up feeling refreshed and ready for the day, or do you find yourself lying awake at night wishing you could get back to sleep?

Sleeplessness is a common concern affecting many people. While there are countless tips and remedies available online, the key to improving sleep is understanding why your sleep has become disrupted in the first place.

Sleep difficulties can happen for many different reasons, including:

  • Environment: Room temperature, bedding, light, noise, pets, or other people sharing your space

  • Physical factors: Aches, pains, discomfort, or tension in the body

  • Medical factors: Digestive issues, headaches, hormonal changes, or other health concerns

  • Emotional factors: Past experiences, stress, worries, or unresolved concerns

  • Habits and routines: Bladder habits, bedtime routines, screen use, and learned brain patterns

Your brain and body can develop patterns that keep you awake, whether that means struggling to fall asleep, waking in the early hours, or being unable to return to sleep once awake.

Why do common sleep remedies not always work?

If you have searched online for ways to sleep better, you have probably seen many suggested solutions, including:

  • Drinking warm milk

  • Using lavender oil or other relaxation techniques

  • Taking medication

  • Counting sheep or repeating mantras

  • Meditation

  • Getting out of bed

  • Exercising before bed

  • Avoiding exercise before bed

  • Reducing screen time at night

Many people find some of these strategies helpful. However, these approaches often focus on managing the symptoms rather than addressing the underlying cause.

For lasting change, it is important to understand what triggered your sleep difficulties and what is continuing to reinforce the pattern.

How can brain coaching help with sleeplessness?

Brain coaching focuses on identifying and changing the patterns that may be affecting your sleep.

The process involves three key steps:

1. Identify the original trigger

The first step is understanding what may have started the sleep problem. This could be linked to an experience, a thought pattern, stress response, or habit that your brain has learned over time.

2. Process the issue

Once the trigger has been identified, the next step is working through the issue so your brain no longer responds in the same way.

3. Create new brain habits

The final step is developing a personalised strategy to help you create healthier sleep patterns that fit your situation.

Many people find that around three sessions can help them get back on track and begin building new habits.

Can brain coaching help me sleep without medication?

Brain coaching works by helping you understand and retrain the patterns that may be affecting your sleep. It does not involve drugs or hypnosis.

Every person’s sleep challenges are different, which is why the approach is tailored to your individual circumstances. Past clients have presented with a range of issues and have successfully moved towards deeper, more restful sleep and waking up feeling energised and ready for the day.

Imagine no longer spending your nights wishing the hours away, but instead waking up refreshed and ready to take on whatever the day brings.
